Midwifery care costs

All antenatal and post-natal appointments attract a medicare rebate. The amount depends on whether you have hit the Medicare safety net or not. Below rebates are the indicated amount prior to hitting the safety net, so rebates may differ depending on your families individual circumstances.

Booking/management fee

$500.00 payable at 16 weeks

To support the time and work involved in coordinating your care, a one-off booking and care management fee of $500 will be payable in full at 16 weeks of pregnancy for families wanting both shared care or pregnancy/post-natal support. There is no medicare rebate for this fee.

This fee contributes to the time involved in organising and coordinating your maternity care, including reviewing your pregnancy history and results, arranging referrals and investigations, liaising with your chosen maternity hospital and other healthcare providers, maintaining your clinical records, and providing ongoing guidance and support as your pregnancy progresses and throughout the postnatal period. This fee helps ensure that adequate time is allocated to these important aspects of your care, allowing me to continue providing a personalised, thorough and sustainable service to the families I support.

Antenatal Care

Short antenatal visit (60 mins) - $120.00 ($73.75 Medicare rebate)

Long antenatal visit (90 mins) - $170.00 ($110.55 Medicare rebate)

Short antenatal phone call (10-40 mins) - Bulk billed

Long antenatal phone call (40+ mins) - Bulk billed

 Labour and Birth attendance

Labour and birth attendance $1500.00

(Split into 2 payments - $750 on call/booking fee payable at 32 weeks,

$750 birth attendance fee payable at 36 weeks.)

No Medicare rebate available for this service.

Postnatal Care

Short postnatal visit (60 mins) - $150.00 ($108.40 Medicare rebate)

Long postnatal visit (90 mins) - $200.00 ($162.60 Medicare rebate)

Short postnatal phone call (20-40 mins) - Bulk billed

Long postnatal phone call (40+ mins) - Bulk billed

If you wish for Emily to do all of yours and your babies post-natal care and opt out of hospital home visits, all visits in the first week will be bulk-billed.

The home GTT experience

  • Home GTT with education session $300 ($110.55 Medicare rebate)

  • Home GTT without education session $170 ($110.55 Medicare rebate)

All home gestational diabetes testing includes relevant clinical checks and a pregnancy “check-in” to ensure you are well and that it is appropriate and safe to complete your GTT that day. Please allow at least 2.5 hours for entire test to be completed. Test involves initial “fasting” blood test, consumption of glucose drink and repeat blood test 1 hour and 2 hours after consumption of the glucose drink.

Comprehensive information, instructions and consent form will be sent to you via email prior to your appointment. Routine 24-28 week blood testing can also be done at the same time as your gestational diabetes test.

You do not need to be an existing client of Emily’s to be eligible for the home GTT.

At an estimate, most families having shared care will have a minimum of 8 antenatal appointments and 8 post-natal appointments. However, this can vary depending on individual families needs.

If you are wanting the full spectrum of care; antenatal, labour and birth support and post-natal care, an expected out of pocket cost (after medicare rebates) would start at $3000.00.
